Welcome to Bowen Central

Welcome to the Bowen Central blog. This is the first blog I’ve ever written, but hopefully not the last. My intention is to keep people posted about all things Bowen Therapy, answer any questions you may have and look at other ways of living well. I’ll try to keep them informative and hopefully entertaining.

I’m writing this with a moon boot on in my last few weeks of a long rehabilitation after a spinal surgery in March, followed by an ankle surgery in July. Let’s just say it’s been a complicated process and as with a lot of the post surgical and chronic cases I come across my body has been compensating and accommodating in other areas.

You might have noticed yourself that where you have pain isn’t necessarily where your body has been injured. It’s common for our fascia or connective tissue to become stiff and develop adhesions when we have dysfunctional muscle recruitment and posture.

This is where Bowen therapy comes into its own, addressing the entire body rather than a single area. Bowen moves stimulate the release of tight and restricted muscles and fascia resulting in improved mobility and posture.

As with any rehabilitation process we must address pain and inflammation first – this can be through rest, antiinflammatory drugs and pain relief if required and the use of cold and hot therapy at the appropriate times.

When pain has been reduced this is when range of motion and mobility can be addressed through modalities such as Bowen – obviously I’m slightly biased !

Once we have restored mobility this is when we can start a strengthening programme with a physiotherapist to build up those soft tissues that may have become weak and atrophied.

I’m still in the first stage – addressing pain and inflammation but have already booked in my first Bowen treatment for a few weeks to start stage two – increasing my mobility and addressing areas of tension to increase range of motion.

Bring it on!

Wow thank you Jacqui for your first Blog. I have had my little Scottish Terrier Tammy with two legs one especially compromised and Jacqui has regularly visited and given Tammy Bowen and Lazer treatment . This ongoing treatment has helped so much and then I had back problem and Jacqui treated it with the Bowen method and wow I felt so good and she explained what was going on as I recognise the pain can be coming from somewhere else.
